Why do you tutor for BSP?

Having been homeschooled since the fifth grade, entering UC Berkeley as a pre-medicine student was a completely new experience for me. A university with such incredible opportunities and individuals of diverse backgrounds both fascinated and intimidated me. Joining BSP my freshman year was one of the best decisions I have made to become involved in the UC Berkeley community and connect with others who share similar interests and passions.

The immense growth I’ve experienced since joining BSP and stepping foot on campus inspired me to take on a tutor position for the BSP community. The learning resources and support that the BSP community has provided motivates me to take on a leadership role within the BSP community to support fellow BSP members’ learning, academic interests, and personal development in a challenging course. As I pursue my final year here at Berkeley, I hope that my tutoring for other members in MCB 102 can serve as an academic resource, but more importantly, foster a supportive and collaborative environment where we all work to tackle this course together.

What is your favorite class so far?

My favorite class has to be MCB 102. While this class is probably the most challenging course I have taken at Berkeley, this class solidified my academic interests in the sciences and applying the course topics to medicine and research environments. This course has also contributed to my development as a learner by shifting my approaches and perspective on learning; tackling complex mechanisms and topics by taking advantage of all course resources and asking questions without fear of judgment has strengthened my resilience in the classroom. I strive to share the confidence I have gained in this course to mentor future BSP members enrolled in MCB 102 and support their learning in the course and future classes!
