Why do you tutor for BSP?

Coming into Berkeley I was so excited to begin my classes. But soon after my first semester, I felt stuck in a world where there was constant competition and it seemed like every time I got excited to take a class someone would say "Oh no, good luck, that class was terrible." My excitement would very quickly turn into stress. As a tutor, I want to be the person that provides clarity and support in these classes and foster a positive environment for students to maintain that excitement and confidence in classes. Being part of the BSP, I found the community that gave me a place to find people and faculty who were always supportive and uplifting. Now, I am so grateful to be given the opportunity to give back!

What is your favorite class so far?

My favorite class has certainly been MCB 102! That class was an accumulation of many concepts I had been studying over the past few semesters and it was fascinating to see how they were interconnected. It also taught me a lot about myself; I learned how to study effectively (after much trial and error) and better manage my time. At the time, I had also been working in a lab for a few semesters and it provided clarity on the resasonsing behind experiemnts and concepts I was struggling to grasp, making my work all the more interesting and exciting. While the class was certainly challenging, the rigor of the class allowed to learn something new every lecture in the context of latest scientific developments, taught me about how to achieve a sense of confidence in my academic abilities, and even allowed me to make meaningful connections with people (after studying together so often) who are now some of my closest friends!
