Why do you tutor for BSP?

When I joined BSP as a freshman, I struggled with imposter syndrome, adjusting to the academic rigor of introductory STEM classes here at Berkeley, and meeting students who experienced similar life challenges. When I found BSP, I found a community that gives every BSP-er so much support, confidence, and strength to face these challenges together, not alone. I wanted to give back to my BSP community, and create a safe space in Study Group where you feel supported in your learning and not afraid to ask questions or help whenever you need it. I know Physics 8A can be an intimidating class for biology majors especially, but it does provide useful knowledge of physics you will encounter in everyday life, so we hope to offer a fun learning environment in Study Group!

What is your favorite class so far?

My favorite classes so far have been Chem 1A with Dr. Shusterman and Chem 3B with Dr. Robak! Just like physics, chemistry is inextricably linked to every aspect of living and material things. I enjoyed learning about the properties of any element that can be predicted just by its location on the periodic table, or studying the reactivity in carbon-based, organic compounds that informs how enzymes, antibodies, vitamins and other molecules interact in our bodies. I love learning what these microscopic interactions tell us about the bigger picture!
