UC Berkeley’s Biology Scholars Program Receives $80K Grant to Enhance Study Groups

October 28, 2024

As part of a generous $25 million pledge to UC Berkeley, the Biology Scholars Program (BSP) has been awarded an $80,000 grant from the Berkeley Frontier Fund. This grant is dedicated to refreshing and enhancing the nine BSP Study Groups, which cover essential lower division courses for biology majors, the Foundations of Data Science course, and the Survey of the Principles of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology course.

The funds will be utilized to develop innovative training protocols aimed at helping tutors advance and adapt their pedagogical practices to the new post-Covid normal. These protocols will promote active learning in group settings and foster collaboration with campus partners and programs to support undergraduates in STEM.

“We are thrilled to receive this grant, which will significantly bolster our efforts to provide high-quality education and support to our students,” said John Matsui, Director of the Biology Scholars Program. “This funding will enable us to ensure our tutors are well-equipped to meet the evolving needs of our students.”
